Younique Make Up Product Review

So as an avid make up fan since a very early age, i relish any chance to put my face on at any time.  So when i received a Younique make up kit in my blogger mail this weekend, i have to say i was pretty excited!!!

For anyone who doesn’t already know Younique make up is a range of make up and skincare products that you can buy from your local distributors, mine comes in the shape of a lovely pair of gals called Clare and Amy.

So within my kit, i received a range of make up (including a lip splash id had my eye on, bonus!) as well as a couple of skin care products.  Being ever efficient, the girls had even popped some disposable brushes in there to boot.

The bag itself was fabulous, a metallic purple made it really stand out and made the contents seem all the more exciting. Full of pockets there was room to fit everything you could imagine in there.

So after oooooing and ahhhhing at every piece and flashing each colour at my very uninterested hubby (miserable sod), i decided the best thing to do was to prep my skin first, so out come the Pore Purifying Cleanser…..

I already had clear skin as id not worn any make up for two days so prior to using the cleanser i had used a facial wash of my own that i use every day.  The cleanser doesn’t have much of a distinctive smell to it, it is just a very subtle, fresh smell, the directions are literally to massage into damp skin and rinse, its that easy.  Very different to other cleansing washes I’ve used in the past, the tiny blue bits in the solution were not harsh at all, i didn’t feel like i was washing my face with a rough toilet brush, i could apply plenty of pressure and it was still comfortable.

Once i rinsed my face i literally felt like i’d been given new skin, it felt lovely.  I suffer with dry skin on my forehead and down my nose due to sun damage as an inexperienced, sun worshipping 18 year old, and its never left me. No matter what products i use I’ve never been able to get rid of this shiny, red skin; that the second foundation or even worse powder is applied i start to look like a scabby old leaf.  Being called Rudolf the red nose reindeer by my dad at Christmas sounds cruel, but i have to admit i do think i’d make a good candidate for Santa if his main man is ever out of action.

Anyway i digress, so the nose was pretty shiny, as was the forehead, cheeks and chin, but i say shiny as in clean, absolutely pristinely clean, not a dry patch or blocked pore to be seen, i really do love this product.  Previously i have used a very expensive facial kit by a well know brand (mentioning no names, Clinique) and i’ve used it for a very, very long time; i do have to admit this product is in fact on a par with my favourite brand, its just as lovely and doesn’t smell too dissimilar, it does what it says on the tin and i would recommend this product to any skincare fan to be used before or after their make up regime.  It left my skin feeling clean and fresh and thats good enough for me.

So once the face was cleaned and prepped it was time to use the foundation….

The first thing I loved about the Mineral touch Liquid Foundation was the application, the dispenser acts like a pipette to remove the liquid from the bottle, I used the colour Velour and it was so perfect for my very fair, very pasty complexion I was very pleasantly surprised. It is difficult to colour match other foundations, I’m either to dark or too pale but I have to admit this was a very happy medium.  The foundation itself was really nice, very light, smooth, silky and gave a really nice finish. For anyone with unmarked skin a thin layer of this make up would be fine, my skin is not looking it’s best at the minute so I did need to apply extra to certain areas.  The product was easy to blend and even gave the old nose a bit of a new look.  While it didn’t hide my nose and fod of all it’s dryness, it did hide a considerable amount which I was really pleased with.

I know I look like someone’s just ran over my cat but it gets better.

So next, i applied the moodstruck precision pencil eyeliner crayon, one word, PERFECT!!!!! full coverage, smooth, so easy to apply with really dramatic effects, no need for multiple applications; what more can i say, its everything you could ask for in an eye pencil!!!!

Now was the time to use the Moodtruck Addiction Shadow Palette, number2.

My eyebrows are tattooed on so i used my own eyebrow powder.

So for my upper brow, directly under my eyebrow i used Romantic, directly underneath on my lower brow i used Blissful, on my upper lid i used Perplexed and on my lower lid, i used Peppy.  As an additional i also used Romantic in the corner of my eye by my tear duct which brightens the eye and i also used blissful on top of the lower lid to add some gold tones directly over the eyeball.  As mentioned above i have tattooed eyebrows so to get a definite feature i pencil over them to define them and give them shape, one of my biggest beauty regrets, as i now cant go anywhere without pencilling my eyebrows or i tend to look like Leo the Lion with a nice shade of blue over my eyeballs thanks to the ink discolouration.

This palette is gorgeous, the colours are so sparkly the photographs really don’t do them justice at all. The colours are easy to apply, good to blend, can be layered and darkened very easily so they can be used as a light daytime style or dark smokey shade for an evening out.  Gorgeous and highly recommended.

3D Fibre Lashes

Following my eye shadow and eyebrow application, it was time to try the Moodstruck 3D Fibre Lashes kit…..

Now the idea of this product is to build your lashes up to a length that you want, do you want slight and subtle? or big, bold lashes that look like false lashes? either way you can do this with this kit. I was a bit dubious that the initial application would do anything, but the thickener did actually make a difference on its own so i was pleasantly surprised when i added the second application.  My eyelashes were definitely thicker and darker and i was pretty impressed, if you like your eyes bold i’d say give this kit a go, over time i think it would save a lot on false lashes.

So once my eyes and brows were sorted all it left, after a quick splash of my own blusher, was my lips.  This was the piece of kit i was most looking forward to using. I applied the Moodstruck Splash Liquid Lipstick in Superstitious, i absolutely love it!!!!

It goes on so easy and it doesn’t need multiple layers for it to be bold, it literally comes out the colour you see on my photographs, its thick but not heavy, eye catching and really makes you stand out.  I love bold statement lips, as I’ve mentioned in my previous blogs, my colour of choice is normally red, but this colour changed my look so much and i felt a lot more different than i would picking my usual colour.  The lipstick lasts really well, but just beware of smudging your lips because it does show, not because of the product itself but more so the colour.

One thing it didn’t do that red lipstick is known for is stain my teeth BONUS!!!! i do tend to spend a lot of time licking my own teeth when i wear red lipstick or gloss, i tend to look like an excited Labrador that has a cheeseburger waved in front of him, because im so aware of the life of its own red lippy has, this on the other hand was fine and did stay put.  Until that is, i had a cheeky smooch with the hubby who then looked like he’d caught some unsavoury disease and belonged in a coffin.  Clare was on hand with a quick tip of removing the lipstick with baby wipes which worked a treat, but i personally removed mine in the shower.

I really do love this lipstick and i will be trying some other colours also, they didn’t dry my lips out and didn’t spread onto my skin at all so i was very happy with the result.  All i need was to sort my bonce out to complete the look….

Victory rolls and blue lips

In all i really enjoyed using these products, they are reliable, nice on your skin, light, hard wearing and long lasting.  I would say that this brand of make up are on a Parr with any other high street make up, the joy of these products is that you don’t have to trawl the shops endlessly to find what you want, these products are all delivered to your door whenever the fancy takes you.  I will definitely be purchasing some items myself in the near future and would advise anyone to contact you local distributor and get buying.

Sunshine Blogger Award

I am very proud to announce that I’ve been nominated for the Sunshine Blogger Award.  This was very unexpected as im a relative newbie, but I’ve certainly enjoyed writing my post and reading posts that other nominees have posted.

Firstly a huge shout out to Teeshares for my nomination, it was and is greatly appreciated, for anyone who hasn’t already checked out their blog on the link above, you won’t be disappointed i promise.

Secondly, as part of the nomination i have to answer 11 questions set for me, so here goes:

1.What made you start your blog

I have 6 children and i have quite a busy life, we have a happy home and share quite a lot of funny times and i always felt like i should be sharing those moments, even if it was just for myself to read back on as the kids got older.  I also loved the freedom of being able to write about literally anything i wanted, i had complete freedom and i loved it.

2.What’s your most favourite post you’ve written?

I thin my favourite post I’ve written has to be my Saturday Morning Chaos blog post. Its a recurring situation i find myself in a lot of the time, it literally is chaotic, i wrote the blog when i had not long had my most recent baby and was settling into mummy hood as a mummy of 6, which at first i did struggle with a tiny bit, the remainder of the day i’m writing about was in fact a good day, the chaos i wrote about disappeared as the day went on, and for me it sums our family up and gives me a warm little feeling in my tummy as how lucky i am to have this experience.

3.What are your top 3 hobbies?

First and foremost, writing, closely followed by drawing and lastly reading.  All of which i need to be left alone for so i do have to set out a time each day to be able to do this and keep my sanity ha ha.

4.If you were to name one person as your favourite person, who would they be AND WHY?

My favourite person is my husband Anthony.  I couldn’t say why but since the day we met I’ve never tired of his company.  He’s my go to person for literally EVERYTHING!!!!! We spent a period of time as friends and i think that built the foundation to our relationship, we do everything together.  From changing my dressing after our babies births to checking my piles (no i’m not joking) he does anything i ask him to.

Although the days of him writing me love notes and poetry just because he felt like it are no more, he can be incredibly romantic and thoughtful.  He knows me better than anybody and has seen every side to me possible, good and bad, and he’s never got up and ran away.

He took on my eldest 3 children as his own (i was married previously) and he’s never treated any of them differently to his own biological children and i will always be grateful for that.

There are many sides to Anthony and i’m lucky to say i’m the person who can say they’ve seen them all. He’s my best friend and we are both very passionate about each other, within minutes of our first ever conversation we both agreed we felt like we had known each other forever and hopefully we are one of the lucky ones and our “old school” relationship will forever remain like that.

5.What’s your favourite colour?

I have a few but i’d probably say clothing wise, black, black and more black with a splash of red for good measure.  For my home i would say grey, cream and any other pastel colours that take my fancy at the time.

6.If you were to eat one food item for the rest of your life, what would that be?

Buttered Toast, Thick white bread, would never tire of it.

7.Who did you look up to growing up, and why?

Marilyn Monroe (apart from the being dead bit), i thought she was beautiful, the mystery surrounding her death mesmerised me and still does to this day.  She lived in an era i would kill to go back in time to, she was so glamorous and literally lit up a room.  I just thought she was timeless and i loved that about her, my obsession grew and grew and even at 35 years old i’m still transfixed on her life story and the red lipstick!!!!.

8.What’s your biggest wish in life?

To have a long, happy, healthy life and watch my children, grandchildren and great grandchildren grow up into beautiful people with wonderful lives.

9. Do you believe in love at first sight?

Yes totally. I fell in love with my husband before i’d even met him (we spoke on the phone for 3 weeks before eventually meeting up) and i told him on our first date that i loved him and was going to marry him.  I wasn’t wrong!!!!!!

10. What are you most proud of in your life?

My children and the life I’ve built for them.

11.What’s been your favourite holiday destination so far?

Id say Florida, in my late teens my mum and dad took me there twice and the second time i was about to turn 18 and it was the last family holiday we had where it was just the three of us (i’m an only child).

So there are may questions answered, all that’s left to do now is nominate 11 fabulous blogs, which you will find below, click the links and have a good mooch, lets show them as much support as we can:

Scummy Mummy

I’ve worn make up since i was roughly 14 years old.  i didn’t have to dabble in my mums make up bag she came to me and asked would i like some make up, i was fortunate enough that she took me straight to the local Clinique counter to have my make up done and have the basics bought for me.  Christmas fast approached and my presents were literally everything i could get my hands on from Clinique.

Scummy mummy

Since then it still remains my all time favourite brands and has never failed me, from make up to skin care products ive literally tried everything they had to offer.  At 35 with my 36th lurking in the nearish future my make up bag currently stocks at least a few of Cliniqes products along with added Max Factor and Mac, unfortunately the contents only leave the bag a couple of times a week at best.

As a mummy of 6 beautiful children my time is firmly focused on them and keeping my house neat and tidy (although if you visit unannounced you will most definitely find one or two children’s toys strewn across my living room and a random shoe most likely sat at the top of my stairs).

On a general day my cleaning and tidying will start literally from the moment i put my feet on the floor, i quickly make the beds and clear up the remnants of whatever the kids have been playing with that morning (usually something they shouldn’t like my sewing kits).  Ill brush my teeth and have a wash/shower and pull on either a clean pair of pj’s or my staple black leggings and some sort of black t shirt, i keep my regular clothes for the days im out so the bog standard black comfy stuff always makes an appearance.  The hair gets a quick brush and literally thrown in a knot on the top of my head, if im feeling adventurous ill sling a hair band or head scarf around for a bit of colour and im good to go.

Bog standard mummy

Its not that i have no desire to look nice every day, i do, the compulsion is still there from before i had kids, the days when i washed and straightened my hair every single day, the slap was put on in full, the nails were always painted and the roots were always touched up.  I managed this until baby number 4, when finally i succumbed to comfort rather than beauty.

Before baby number 4

When i do make the effort to put my face on i do tend to do it in full depending on the look im going for, i love red lipstick and not only does it make teeth look whiter it also makes your lips look fuller, (always a good idea to entice the hubby for a cheeky smooch when the kids aren’t looking).  Its times when im wearing my make up that i will volunteer to have pictures taken with the hubby or the kids.  This isn’t the only time i have my picture taken but in as far as posting it on social media for all the world to see.

Red lipstick is my first love

My husband loves me with or without make up but he is partial to no make up at all so has a tendency to take photographs of me when he sees me at my best, which for me is usually my worst.  I can be rolling around on the floor with the kids or in the middle of doing the dishes when i feel an arm around my waist and a phone in front of my face, my very clean, very bare face, hair looking like a burst mattress wearing an old t shirt that i love to sleep in that belonged to my dad.  I hate these types of photographs im there in all my glory for everyone to see, every bump, every blemish, the scar that’s so prominent on my forehead without make up, i literally loath them.  I will sit and dissect each little mark, pore etc, the hubby gets told in no uncertain terms to delete them, i know he doesn’t delete them but he knows his life wont be worth living if he shows anyone.

Scummy wifey

I make a point of only posting what i class as the reasonable photos, i get likes on my social media and for some reason it makes me all the more aware of how i look, the dreaded confirmation that someone has actually looked at my mush, its very rare you will find me alone on the pictures, there’s always a small child or my hubby for company.

you look different on your Facebook pictures” is something i have heard in the past, not sure whether to take offence i wonder what to make of that comment, are they saying i merely look a bit happier or brighter, or is it in fact i look alright on Facebook in reality im an ugly bitch who needs a bag over her head, i honestly don’t know.

I do pride myself on being very good at hiding a multitude of sins with make up, i can make myself look happier, more alert, thinner, more toned, tanned you name it i can do it, ive picked up many tricks of the trade over the years and i use them to my advantage given half the time.  But for the most part, quite frankly i just cant be arsed!!!!! i love having a clean and tidy home, i love spending time with my kids and my husband i love sewing and drawing and talking to my friends, i love my neighbours coming around for a brew or something to eat and while id like to say i do all this with a full face on and wearing my best clothes, there simply just isn’t the time and something has to give.

So i will go on inflicting my unmade mug on the world, my leggings that could do with being a bit less slack on the bum and my t shirts that sometimes cling too much to my post natal, wobbly belly, im a mummy and im happy with that so what if ive chipped my toe nail polish or my fake nails need a bit of TLC, this doesn’t make me a bad person this makes me human, a loving wife, a good friend and yes sometimes a scummy mummy but nevertheless ill do it and ill make sure i’ll do it while grabbing mummy hood by the balls!!!!!!

Cherry DollFace Q&A, Inspirational women Series

Sitting at my computer one lazy afternoon I began trawling through the endless list of make up tutorials that appear online, as I usually did, the usual smoky eye tutorial or product review appeared. Nothing new there to say the least, until I found a new face that I’d never seen before.

Cherry dollface had a fabulous list of vintage hair and makeup tutorials, I sat and watched as many as I could before reaching for my make up kit and getting stuck in.

The videos were easy to understand, not boring, colourful, girly, different and even better the pin up in front of me was like myself, covered in tattoos, something you didn’t generally see at the time.

From then on I was hooked recreating as many looks as possible. Ive followed Cherry Dollface’s career ever since. In my opinion she is such an inspiration, and an excellent role model for girls of today, she is elegant, classy, and more importantly she is who she wants to be.
So after one small email and a quick response from the lady herself I sent over a few questions and eagerly awaited her reply. Hope you enjoy this Q&A with Cherry Dollface follow her videos yourself HERE and hopefully you will become a big fan as I did myself.

2. What first attracted you to the world of pin ups, modelling and make up tutorials?

I just liked how classic and timeless it all was. I was a little punk rocker so I thought the mix of styles was really cool. Look at it as a hobby and enjoy what you are doing! Very few people make money as makeup artists and no one is making a living off of being a pinup model, so just keep your expectations realistic. It is a super fun hobby though, so if you want to do it, than do it!

9. Did you have any official training in hair and make up or is it all self taught?

Self taught

23. What’s the craziest thing you’ve ever done and would you do it again?
